Thermal Fogging Machine Maintenance Guide

Proper maintenance extends machine life to 10+ years. This guide covers daily cleaning, weekly inspection, fuel system care, off-season storage, and troubleshooting common faults — based on 10 years of manufacturing and after-sales experience.

Safety Note: Always turn off the machine and allow it to cool completely before performing any maintenance. Never service a hot machine. Wear gloves when handling chemicals and fuel.

Daily Maintenance Checklist

1Check fuel level — refill with clean petrol before starting
2Check chemical tank level and formulation type (oil-based only)
3Inspect chemical delivery tube for cracks or blockages
4Run machine for 30 seconds on mineral oil before adding chemical
5After use: flush tank and delivery system with mineral oil
6Wipe external surfaces clean of chemical residue
7Store in upright position in a ventilated area

Weekly Inspection Checklist

1Disassemble and clean fog nozzle tip with thin wire or compressed air
2Inspect fuel line for cracking or leakage
3Check spark plug — clean electrode if carbon-fouled
4Inspect resonance tube exterior for dents or heat damage
5Check all external fasteners and clamps — tighten if loose
6Test output fog quality — should be dense white, not thin or grey

Nozzle Cleaning (Most Critical Maintenance Task)

The fog nozzle determines droplet size and fog density. A partially blocked nozzle creates larger droplets that settle quickly and reduce effectiveness. A fully blocked nozzle stops fog output entirely. Clean the nozzle weekly or whenever fog output appears thin or inconsistent.

Turn off and coolAllow machine to cool for 20 minutes. Do not disassemble a hot nozzle.
Remove nozzle tipUse the correct spanner for your model. Do not force. Keep all O-rings safe.
Clear the orificeUse a thin wire (not a drill bit) to clear the orifice hole. Rinse with mineral oil or diesel.
Check O-ring conditionWorn O-rings cause chemical leaks and pressure loss. Replace if cracked or deformed.
Reinstall and testReinstall with correct torque. Test with mineral oil before adding chemical formulation.

Troubleshooting Common Faults

SymptomLikely CausesFix
Machine will not startNo fuel; fouled spark plug; clogged fuel filter; flooded engineCheck fuel; replace spark plug; replace filter; tilt machine and restart after 2 min
Machine starts but no fogNozzle blocked; chemical delivery valve closed; wrong chemical typeClean nozzle; open delivery valve; verify oil-based formulation
Fog output is thin / greyChemical too dilute; low engine temperature; nozzle partially blockedCheck dilution ratio; allow engine to warm up 60 seconds; clean nozzle
Machine runs rough / sputtersStale or contaminated fuel; water in fuel; partially blocked fuel filterDrain and replace fuel; replace fuel filter; clean fuel tank
Fuel leaking from tank / lineCracked fuel line; loose clamp; damaged tank sealReplace fuel line; tighten clamp; replace tank seal — do not operate if leaking
Excessive smoke from engineCarbon build-up in resonance tube; oil contamination in fuelRun cleaning solvent for 5 min; use only clean petrol without oil additives

Off-Season Storage (Monsoon / Winter)

Fogging machines used seasonally for dengue prevention drives or post-monsoon pest control may sit idle for 3–6 months. Improper storage is the most common cause of premature machine failure.

Run the chemical tank empty — never store with chemical inside
Flush the tank and delivery tube with mineral oil, then run until empty
Drain the petrol fuel tank completely — stale petrol varnishes carburettor jets
Remove and clean the spark plug; store separately or replace
Clean all chemical residue from external surfaces with a dry cloth
Apply a light machine oil coat to the fog nozzle, fuel fittings, and any exposed metal
Store upright in a dry, ventilated room — never in direct sunlight or damp spaces
For electric-start models: remove the battery and store separately with monthly charge
Tag the machine with the storage date and service notes for the next operator

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I clean a thermal fogging machine?

Flush after every use. Clean nozzle weekly. Full service every 100 operating hours.

Why is my fogger not producing fog?

Most common: blocked nozzle (clean with thin wire), clogged fuel filter (replace), wrong chemical type (use oil-based only), or fouled spark plug (clean or replace).

Can I use water-based chemicals?

No — never. Water flash-vaporises explosively at fogging temperatures and damages the machine. Oil-based formulations only.
